Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez has won a court case over the use of two domain names jenniferlopez.net and jenniferlopez.org after a decade long battle.
The Waiting for Tonight singer had registered her name as a trademark in May 1999 and launched legal proceedings to obtain the transfer of two domain names to her charitable foundation, according to reports.
The court decided that Arizona resident Jeremiah Tieman, had been financially benefiting by hosting content on sites with Lopez’s name in the web address.
In his ruling, legal expert William Towns ruled that Tieman had “registered two domain names that are identical to the complainant’s mark and has used those domain names to attract Internet users to a website from which (he) generates pay-per-click advertising”.
He has ordered the domain names to be transferred to the Lopez’s foundation as they had been used for commercial reasons and in bad faith.
